WVMC PPMD HISTORY/ BACKGROUND
Western Visayas Medical Center Public- Private Mix DOTS is located at Q. Abeto Street, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. A level IV hospital based clinic; a DOTS providing and referring clinic with Programmatic Management on Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Treatment Center (PMDT). It started June 2007, wherein DOTS staff where appointed and trained for Public- Private Mix DOTS operations under Global Fund through Philippine Coalition against Tuberculosis (PHILCAT). There were 83 patients for the month of June to December 2007.
In March 2008, Advocacy Symposium was conducted among stakeholders and was followed by Training of Referring Physicians on April 15, 2008. Launching of Public- Private Mix DOTS was done May 16, 2008 with signing of Memorandum of Agreement by the different agencies and stakeholders. Thus, our DOTS clinic became DOH- PHILCAT certified last November 2008 and PHILHEALTH accredited in 2009. Our DOTS facility has been recognized as one of the top performing DOTS facilities in the country.
In 2010, the center was chosen to be recipient of Multi- Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Center, a program of World Health Organization (WHO) and DOH under the monitoring of Philippine Business for Social Progress. A TB reference laboratory was also provided by World Health Organization for TB Culture and Gene Xpert.
DOTS clinic is composed of a clinic physician, nurses and medical technologist. It has its own Tuberculosis Diagnostic Committee (TBDC) members and recently Hospital TB team and has created its own TB policy.
The clinic has its own advocacy points, innovative approaches and best practices; currently the clinic has been conducting regular orientation and updates with the purpose of strengthening our referral system so that our TB patients within the hospital would be given appropriate and immediate management. Our facility receives about 140 referrals per month. TBDC referral averages 160 per month. Enrollees per quarter are more than 75 patients.
With the coordinated effort of our dedicated and committed staff, we aim to reach our mission and vision in the DOTS.
Objectives
- To develop and implement plans and policies on TB- DOTS implementation.
- To establish and implement the internal and external TB referral system.
- To provide TB diagnostic, treatment and counseling services to patients according to National Policies and International Standard.
- To participate in the EQA for DSSM.
- To collaborate with other DOTS facility to ensure that referred TB cases are properly managed.
- To coordinate with the regional, provincial or city coordinators to ensure adequate drugs and supplies.
- To submit quarterly NTP reports to CHO/ PHO. Mobilize resources to support TB control.
Policy Statement
The WVMC Private Public Mix DOTS shall facilitate, implement, supervise and coordinate all activities and concerns regarding TB control and shall function in accordance with the guidelines of the National TB Control Program and the Implementing Guidelines on Strengthening Hospital TB Program.
